Our trainer, Kendra, of Sit Happens, showed us what it takes to be a great dog owner. She was always professional, punctual, and reasonable. She is a calm dog trainer who knows exactly what she’s doing and who knows how to convey that to dog owners (us). She practices behavioral modification techniques which are positive and negative influences that determine behavior. It worked very well for our dog without the use of boarding or a shock collar. She came to our home and walked us through each step while checking in with us during each week, as needed. We interviewed several other training companies, and we’re very happy we chose Sit Happens! Thank you Kendra!!

We honestly cannot say enough good things about Sit Happens, and especially our trainer, James.
When we started training Boris, we were dealing with a lot of separation anxiety, kennel struggles, barking, destruction, and just a very big, strong-willed dog with a LOT of personality. There were definitely times Joe and I felt overwhelmed and weren’t sure what we were doing.
James changed that for us.
What I love most is that James didn’t just train Boris, he trained us. He taught us how to understand Boris, communicate with him, and handle the hard moments instead of just getting frustrated by them. He gave us the tools and confidence to keep working with Boris even when he wasn’t there.
Boris has come SO far, and honestly, seeing the difference in him and in our relationship with him makes me emotional. We are so proud of our boy, and we know James played a huge part in getting him where he is today.
James truly cared about Boris and about helping Joe and me become better dog parents. We are incredibly grateful for his patience, guidance, and belief in our crazy boy.
If you’re thinking about training your dog, I highly recommend Sit Happens. They didn’t just help us train our dog, they helped us understand him. And that has made all the difference.
Thank you, James, for everything you’ve done for our family.

Signed up for 7 sessions for our Golden Retriever and trained with James. Best decision we made. We have a completely different dog now. He's great at everything. He's calm in the house and has a "place", the doorbell is no longer an issue, and he no longer runs out the door if it is left open. Best of all, we can walk without a leash in the neighborhood or on the beach and it's a game changer. In less than 2 months, we went from pulling on the leash, jumping on guests, and no "recall", to being able to walk outside without a leash. We highly recommend James and the Sit Happens team with your dog. It's worth it in every aspect. Words cannot describe how happy we are with the outcome of our dog's training. Highly recommend to anyone looking into training for their dog. James is a fantastic trainer. He's patient, easy to work with, funny, and best of all, made training our dog FUN.

Samuel at Sit Happens was absolutely amazing to work with. He is an excellent teacher who takes the time to explain everything clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. He didn't just show us what to do—he helped us understand why the techniques work, which made a huge difference in our confidence and success.

His patience was incredible, both with us and with our dogs. No matter how many questions we had, Samuel always took the time to answer them thoroughly and make sure we felt comfortable moving forward. He created a positive, supportive learning environment and never made us feel rushed or overwhelmed.

One of the highlights of our training was our final lesson at the oceanfront. With all the distractions of people, dogs, bikes, and activity around us, George did amazingly well. Seeing him remain focused and responsive in such a challenging environment really showed how effective Samuel's training methods are and how much progress George had made.

The progress we saw throughout the program was impressive, and we left each session feeling more confident and better equipped to continue training on our own. Samuel is knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about helping dogs and their owners succeed.

If you're looking for a trainer who is patient, skilled, and truly invested in helping you build a better relationship with your dog, I highly recommend Samuel and Sit Happens. Thank you, Samuel, for helping George and our family achieve such great results!

Look mom No leash! and I know my "Place" This would not have been possible if Samuel would not have come and trained you to help me! (Chester's words) Thanks Samuel and Sit Happens!
I am so happy that I called Sit Happens. Alex came to my house and explained how the company works and assigned Samuel as our trainer. I thank God for that! Samuel came and We could see the difference after the first visit. He showed me how to work with Chester as he is a little bit a reactive/fearful dog and likes to be vocal. Being as big as he will get (he is 10 months here) he needs to be well trained and have "manners" After the sessions we did the home work and even now every day we do some training. He can now be with me in the front yard on his place as I am working in the flower beds. This way he is part of the family and neighborhood safely. Samuel was always on time, polite, professional, and would listen if I was struggling with an aspect of training. He would give good training tips and he worked with Chester also. Soon Chester wouldn't bark at him anymore :). Thanks Samuel and Sit Happens. We couldn't have done it with out you!

We loved our experience with Sit Happens! They don’t just train your dog, but they train you as the owner on how to best connect and understand your dog’s behavior. Alex was great during the consult process and our pup, Piper, loved having Seanna train with her each week. The knowledge gained will continue to help us and our puppy thrive for years to come! Cannot recommend them enough!

I am very pleased with the training that Seanna provided to my dog Brennie! Brennie is a senior dog and had some limitations that Seanna understood and helped me to work around. I feel so much more confident when walking Brennie in the neighborhood and have even taken her to doggy daycare for extra socialization! She is doing great and I am very proud of her! Thank you Seanna and ‘Sit Happens’!

Frequently asked questions

Do you help puppies and dogs of all ages and breeds?

You bet! Sit Happens is the most established dog training provider in the Jacksonville area with over 15 years in business and 10,000+ dogs trained. We’re experienced in working with puppies and dogs of all life stages and have catered to more than 250 breeds.

What makes Sit Happens different from other dog training services?

Sit Happens is the leading dog training provider in the Jacksonville area, and we also proudly serve St. Augustine, Tampa, Miami and Denver. But we’re more than just another dog trainer— we’ve earned our reputation for a reason. While typical training might focus on getting your dog to follow commands, we go beyond the basics. Our approach is all about your dog’s overall wellbeing, helping them feel comfortable in their environment and strengthening their bond with you.

We make sure you and your family are part of the process, giving you hands-on lessons and exercises to practice with your dog between sessions. This way, you’re not just teaching your dog commands— you’re building an unbreakable bond with your furry friend.

Are your trainers certified?

Yes. Each of our trainers goes through a rigorous 90-day certification course. We only hire trainers with extensive prior experience who pass our thorough vetting process. Each of our trainers also carries their own professional accreditations and affiliations. They are required to undergo 100+ hours of continued education each year to stay up-to-date on the latest science-backed methods.

Can you make sessions fit my schedule?

Of course. One major advantage of private training is that it fits into your lifestyle. Other training services make you drive to a facility on a strict schedule and charge extra for the flexibility of in-home lessons. At Sit Happens, all of our training plans are designed to work within your schedule.

Can you work with multiple dogs?

Yes, we can either train each of your dogs individually or hold private group sessions with all of your dogs together. Each of our trainers can work with up to five dogs at a time.

Does my dog need to be up-to-date on their shots?

Yes. In order to keep you, your dog, and your trainer safe, we kindly ask that you ensure that your dog has received all their vaccinations.

Is private dog training affordable?

Yes, the cost of private dog training is comparable to group dog training, yet it’s twice as effective. In a group training setting, your dog has to overcome the distraction of other dogs they don’t know while still trying to learn the basics. Private training offers an array of additional benefits, including flexible scheduling, personalized lessons, and one-on-one attention from the trainer.
