Dog Training Avondale, FL
Dog training in Avondale helps your dog stay calm and polished in one of Jacksonville’s most elegant historic neighborhoods. Developed during the Florida land boom of the 1920s, Avondale is known for its Mediterranean Revival and Prairie style homes, grand oak canopies, and stately streets running down to the St. Johns River. Its heart is the Shoppes of Avondale on St. Johns Avenue, where sidewalk cafes, boutiques, and restaurant patios make for some of the best dog-friendly strolling in the city.
All that charm comes with distractions. Avondale dogs pass diners, shoppers, joggers, strollers, and plenty of other dogs on narrow, tree-lined sidewalks, and many of the neighborhood’s homes have big front porches and low walls that put passersby right in view. We often help Avondale owners with leash pulling, barking at people walking by, reactivity toward other dogs, and dogs who struggle to settle when you stop for coffee or dinner.
Whether you’re raising a puppy, settling in a rescue, or helping an older dog relax in a busy neighborhood, training helps your dog become a welcome companion everywhere you go in Avondale.

When we started training Boris, we were dealing with a lot of separation anxiety, kennel struggles, barking, destruction, and just a very big, strong-willed dog with a LOT of personality. There were definitely times Joe and I felt overwhelmed and weren’t sure what we were doing.
James changed that for us.
What I love most is that James didn’t just train Boris, he trained us. He taught us how to understand Boris, communicate with him, and handle the hard moments instead of just getting frustrated by them. He gave us the tools and confidence to keep working with Boris even when he wasn’t there.
Boris has come SO far, and honestly, seeing the difference in him and in our relationship with him makes me emotional. We are so proud of our boy, and we know James played a huge part in getting him where he is today.
James truly cared about Boris and about helping Joe and me become better dog parents. We are incredibly grateful for his patience, guidance, and belief in our crazy boy.
If you’re thinking about training your dog, I highly recommend Sit Happens. They didn’t just help us train our dog, they helped us understand him. And that has made all the difference.
Thank you, James, for everything you’ve done for our family.
Samuel at Sit Happens was absolutely amazing to work with. He is an excellent teacher who takes the time to explain everything clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. He didn't just show us what to do—he helped us understand why the techniques work, which made a huge difference in our confidence and success.
His patience was incredible, both with us and with our dogs. No matter how many questions we had, Samuel always took the time to answer them thoroughly and make sure we felt comfortable moving forward. He created a positive, supportive learning environment and never made us feel rushed or overwhelmed.
One of the highlights of our training was our final lesson at the oceanfront. With all the distractions of people, dogs, bikes, and activity around us, George did amazingly well. Seeing him remain focused and responsive in such a challenging environment really showed how effective Samuel's training methods are and how much progress George had made.
The progress we saw throughout the program was impressive, and we left each session feeling more confident and better equipped to continue training on our own. Samuel is knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about helping dogs and their owners succeed.
If you're looking for a trainer who is patient, skilled, and truly invested in helping you build a better relationship with your dog, I highly recommend Samuel and Sit Happens. Thank you, Samuel, for helping George and our family achieve such great results!
I am so happy that I called Sit Happens. Alex came to my house and explained how the company works and assigned Samuel as our trainer. I thank God for that! Samuel came and We could see the difference after the first visit. He showed me how to work with Chester as he is a little bit a reactive/fearful dog and likes to be vocal. Being as big as he will get (he is 10 months here) he needs to be well trained and have "manners" After the sessions we did the home work and even now every day we do some training. He can now be with me in the front yard on his place as I am working in the flower beds. This way he is part of the family and neighborhood safely. Samuel was always on time, polite, professional, and would listen if I was struggling with an aspect of training. He would give good training tips and he worked with Chester also. Soon Chester wouldn't bark at him anymore :). Thanks Samuel and Sit Happens. We couldn't have done it with out you!
